Abby

If Abby has something to say, you’ll hear it. A person of action and incessantly curious, Abby’s search for knowledge and adventure can take its toll on those around her. With her best friend Joshua, she meets Jesus at exactly the right moment, changing the way she sees the world—and her place in it.

Joshua

Joshua is deeply creative, doesn’t like conflict, and is allergic to danger. He’s a dreamer whereas Abby is a doer. Jesus calls Joshua, “Joshua the Brave” because while Joshua is always timid, Jesus calls us what we're not, encouraging Joshua to find bravery through Him. Joshua is loyal, thoughtful, and always there for his best friend Abby, whether he wants to be or not.

Jesus

He first appears as a mysterious stranger, camping in an open field. He is the Jesus of The Chosen. He created the universe, yes, but He still has a sense of humor. He’s the greatest teacher that ever lived, and he’s never too busy to be interrupted by Abby and her friends.

Pigeon

If a little birdy told you, it was probably Pigeon. Responsible and wise beyond her feathers, she represents the audience inside the story. She has an expert sense of what's happening around her and is never shy about sharing her thoughts and advice.

Sheep

Abby’s smelly, semi-domesticated non-pet Sheep has his spirits lifted when Abby befriends him. His life changes forever when he meets Jesus, though he still gets into trouble and will always tell Pigeon what's on his mind. He’s a work in progress.

Abba (Eli)

Abba is a fisherman, loving husband, and father. He enjoys inventing home gadgets and teaching Abby important lessons about life and fishing. He’s not perfect, but he’s wise, and can’t wait for the day he owns his own fishing boat.

Eema (Hannah)

Eema works as a hairdresser. Loving wife, mother and friend to many, she’s compassionate, honest and fair to a fault. She comes from a generation where she had to make herself smaller, so she loves seeing Abby’s fire and insatiable curiosity.

Rabbi Josiah

Rabbi Josiah is 120 years old. 120! He’s the very traditional teacher of every living man in the city. When he moves around town, everyone stands a little straighter—but he’s not feared. He’s beloved, good-hearted, and reaches people with his legendary wisdom.

Quintus

Quintus is a lifelong agent of the Roman Empire. He’s the praetor of Capernaum, kind of like the Roman chief of police. He may not be big, but he’s smart, and cruel...and funny-looking. Apparently, everything you need to rise up through the ranks to become the man in charge.

Hilarius Maximus

The son of a strict Roman officer, Hilarius has been taught that Rome is the best, and he won’t let anybody forget it. Hilarius delivers one-liners that are, well, hilarious. But, the more time he spends with Abby and Joshua, the more his heart opens.

Cyrius Maximus

Cyrius Maximus is a devoted soldier in the Roman Empire and the father of Hilarius. He takes every chance to flex his muscles and his power—no man, woman or child is safe from his intimidating bulk. Hide your cloaks and your fish, or they’ll become his!
